what is wikileaks?
wikileaks, founded in 2006, defined the model of the anonymous document-drop newsroom: a submission system where sources could hand over material without identification, and a publisher willing to work through the largest leaks of the 2010s. its history is inseparable from julian assange and from the trade-offs it forced about redaction and consent.
honest status: the project has been effectively dormant for years - publications wound down long ago - and ddosecrets, tracked elsewhere in this catalogue, took over the librarian role for leak research. the official onion, however, is still published directly on the wikileaks.org homepage, and it remains the canonical address rather than a copycat.
it is tracked here for exactly that reason: an official address of a historically central service, with the caveat baked into the description. reachability, as always, is all the badge claims.
before you trust any of this
- .onion addresses are long on purpose. one wrong letter = someone else's server.
- if a service matters to you, cross-check its address against its own clearnet site or PGP-signed announcements.
- a green badge here means "reachable", never "trustworthy". we report reachability only.
