what is bitcoin core?
bitcoin core is the reference client of the bitcoin network - the software that defines the protocol, maintained by the bitcoin core project. whatever happens on the layers above, this is the foundation underneath.
the project's official site advertises an onion mirror through the standard onion-location tag: documentation, release notes and signed binaries, fetchable end to end inside the tor network. for people verifying and running node software in sensitive environments, that removes the last clearnet hop.
the address tracked here is the advertised one. note that bitcoin.org - a separate community site - publishes no onion; bitcoincore.org is the project's own.
before you trust any of this
- .onion addresses are long on purpose. one wrong letter = someone else's server.
- if a service matters to you, cross-check its address against its own clearnet site or PGP-signed announcements.
- a green badge here means "reachable", never "trustworthy". we report reachability only.
