what is qubes os?
qubes os takes the opposite route from hardened defaults: instead of one system defended everywhere, it splits your digital life into separate virtual machines - work, personal, disposable browsing, untrusted files - so a compromise of one compartment stays contained. "security by compartmentalization", developed openly by joanna rutkowska's invisible things lab.
edward snowden has publicly described it as his setup, and it is a fixture in newsrooms handling hostile material. the project publishes an official onion of its website via a meta onion-location tag and a footer link, and is featured on the tor project's community list of onion sites.
the address tracked here is the advertised official one. downloading a compartmentalization os over tor keeps that particular interest off the books.
before you trust any of this
- .onion addresses are long on purpose. one wrong letter = someone else's server.
- if a service matters to you, cross-check its address against its own clearnet site or PGP-signed announcements.
- a green badge here means "reachable", never "trustworthy". we report reachability only.
