what is kicksecure?
kicksecure is a debian distribution hardened from the ground up by the whonix team: kernel security patches, hardened defaults, anti-forensic features and reduced attack surface - essentially everything security-relevant short of forcing traffic through tor. whonix itself is kicksecure plus the tor gateway.
for users who want a hardened daily driver rather than a tor-only machine, it is the practical option - and a way to run security-sensitive work on the same base the anonymity distros trust. the project advertises its onion via the standard onion-location header on kicksecure.com, the mechanism tor browser itself uses to flag ".onion available".
the address tracked here is exactly the advertised one. fetching a hardened os through the tor network keeps even the interest in hardening out of your isp's logs.
before you trust any of this
- .onion addresses are long on purpose. one wrong letter = someone else's server.
- if a service matters to you, cross-check its address against its own clearnet site or PGP-signed announcements.
- a green badge here means "reachable", never "trustworthy". we report reachability only.
