what is debian?
debian is the distribution half the privacy ecosystem is built on: tails, whonix and kicksecure are all debian derivatives, which makes debian's infrastructure effectively upstream infrastructure for the anonymity world. the project runs an official index of onion mirrors at onion.debian.org covering more than a hundred of its hosts.
the practically important ones are tracked here: the main site, the security tracker - where vulnerability data for every debian package lands - and the ftp archive. pulling security updates through an onion means no observer, not even debian's own logs, connects the fetch to your ip address.
all addresses come from debian's own index page. it is the least glamorous and arguably most load-bearing onion infrastructure on this list.
before you trust any of this
- .onion addresses are long on purpose. one wrong letter = someone else's server.
- if a service matters to you, cross-check its address against its own clearnet site or PGP-signed announcements.
- a green badge here means "reachable", never "trustworthy". we report reachability only.
