what is onionmail?
onionmail is a tor-native email service: inbound mail is automatically encrypted to your pgp key, signup needs no phone number, and free accounts can receive mail from anywhere - paid tiers unlock outbound sending to the wider internet. it publishes a warrant canary and presents the onion as a core feature, not an afterthought.
the operator is a newer commercial venture, so it does not have the two-decade track record of the collectives in this category - but it does publish its onion address prominently on its own homepage, which is the verification practice that counts.
the address tracked here is that homepage-published one, probed continuously like everything else.
before you trust any of this
- .onion addresses are long on purpose. one wrong letter = someone else's server.
- if a service matters to you, cross-check its address against its own clearnet site or PGP-signed announcements.
- a green badge here means "reachable", never "trustworthy". we report reachability only.
