what is whonix?

whonix is a linux distribution designed so that nothing can leak: it runs as two virtual machines - a workstation you actually use and a gateway that forces every connection through tor. even malware running inside the workstation cannot discover your real ip address, because there is no path to it. it has been developed openly since 2012 and spawned the kicksecure hardened distro.

the project dogfoods onion services thoroughly: the whole whonix web presence - homepage, wiki, forums, downloads, even its debian package repository - is served from one official onion base using subdomains, all documented with a machine-readable template on the whonix wiki.

the base address tracked here is exactly the one published in the wiki. downloads and documentation fetched through it stay inside the tor network end to end - the right way to grab an anonymity tool.
