Brave Search[official]

what is brave search?

brave search runs its own web index rather than proxying google or bing, which makes it the largest genuinely independent search engine that officially operates an onion service. for onion users that matters doubly: anonymous search without handing the query to an advertising giant.

unlike the onion-native engines in this category, brave searches the regular surface web - the onion exists so that the searching is anonymous, not because the index lives in the dark. the address is advertised through the standard onion-location header on search.brave.com, and the service is operated by a publicly known company, which is rare accountability for an onion endpoint.

the address tracked here is exactly the advertised one. if it answers, you have an independent index behind a tor-only door.

before you trust any of this

• .onion addresses are long on purpose. one wrong letter = someone else's server.
• if a service matters to you, cross-check its address against its own clearnet site or PGP-signed announcements.
• a green badge here means "reachable", never "trustworthy". we report reachability only.
